Meet the GM: Get to know Hy

There’s something about Hy that makes it feel a little different.
Maybe it’s the history, the character of the building, the people who welcome you through the doors, or that feeling of being right at home.
We caught up with our General Manager, Ben, to find out what makes Hy so special to him, what he loves about being part of the team and what’s in store for the future.
“So, what makes Hy different?”
For Ben, one of the first things that makes Hy stand out is something you can feel as soon as you walk through the doors: its history.
Hy has been part of Lytham for years, and its story is still very much part of the hotel today. From its character and decor to guests returning with memories of the original hotel, there’s a real sense of connection and story here.
Having worked for larger commercial hotel brands previously, Ben particularly loves the family feel at Hy. It’s a little more personal, a little less corporate and, as he puts it, there’s plenty of opportunity to put your own stamp on things.
“How would you describe Hy in three words?”
We couldn’t ask Ben about Hy without finding out how he would describe its personality.
Vibrant. Unique. Cultured.
Although, when we asked him to narrow it down to three words, his first response was:
“I hate three words.”
We’ll let him off!
For Ben, Hy is also quirky, relaxed, fun and friendly – a place that feels a little different from your typical hotel.
“What can you expect from a Hy stay?”
If you’ve never stayed at Hy before, Ben says the best way to describe the experience is a “home away from home”.
Our apartments give you the freedom and comfort of your own space, while still giving you all the luxuries you’d expect from a hotel. There’s room for the whole family to stay together, communal spaces to enjoy and plenty of opportunities to relax and unwind.
And the location? Pretty hard to beat.
With Ashton Gardens directly opposite and Lytham’s local amenities close by, you can spend the day exploring before coming back to your own little corner of Hy.
And just as Ben says…
“It’s a great first experience because it’s like nowhere else, they’ve stayed before”
“What’s next for Hy then?”
While Hy has plenty of history behind it, Ben is excited about what’s still to come. One of his biggest priorities is improving the guest journey and finding new ways to make every stay feel even more personal.
“I’m proud of the way the team have got behind me and my vision,” he says, with everyone bringing their own ideas together to create an even better experience for guests.
From making it easier to enjoy our spa and wellness experiences to introducing new ways of working, there’s plenty to look forward to at Hy.
It’s all about making Hy feel even more welcoming, personal and enjoyable
And we’re only just getting started
And finally… who is the man behind Hy?
We couldn’t finish without asking something a little more personal.
Before coming to Hy, Ben worked as a senior paramedic in the ambulance service.
And during his time there, he delivered nine babies – five girls and four boys!
Even more surprisingly, two of them were named after him.
So, after all that, “what does it take to get through a busy day at Hy?”
Apparently, it’s much simpler:
A Starbucks coffee in the morning.
We can definitely relate to that.
