A Guide to the Lytham Christmas Lights Switch-On
The Lytham Christmas Lights Switch-On is an annual festive highlight in the charming town of Lytham, Lancashire. Taking place in Clifton Square, the event marks the start of the holiday season with plenty of cheer, live entertainment, and dazzling lights. Here’s your essential guide to enjoying this magical evening:
Dates
Expect the switch on to be on a Saturday night in Mid November. In 2024 it was on the 16th of November, so even though the date hasn’t been released expect it to be around the 15th of November 2025. We’ll update you on the date when it has been confirmed.
What to Expect
The event is family-friendly and free to attend, drawing crowds with festive performances, carol singing, and local stalls. While final details for 2025 are still pending, the festivities typically kick off late afternoon and culminate in the grand light switch-on.
Travel & Parking
Lytham offers several parking options but it is a little tight, including public car parks near Clifton Square and Lytham Green. If you’re travelling by train, Lytham Station is just a short walk from the event.
Food & Drink
The event is surrounded by a variety of local cafés, pubs, and restaurants offering everything from warming mulled wine to hearty pub meals. Seasonal market stalls often add to the festive flavour. Our favourite places to hang out before and after the event are Zest, The Deacon and Lytham House.
Facilities
Public toilets are available in nearby pubs, and the event is dog-friendly if you want to bring along your furry friend (just be mindful of crowds). Accessibility is also prioritised in the area with people who can help out, ensuring everyone can enjoy the fun.
If you need a place to stay
If you’re looking for a place to stay, even though it maybe your first choice to find a hotel and apartment close to the square, due to noise, crowds and limited parking options we do not recommend it.
Due to the way the small towns are set up we recommend staying in St Annes where you have loads of parking and no crowds and either taking a 10-minute bus ride in or a 5-minute train ride in.
If you are looking for accommodation in St Anne check out our modern apartment here.
