This Christmas, Hy is dressed to impress, thanks to the creative expertise of Gingerbread Styling, who brought our festive vision to life. From garlands bursting with baubles to sparkling trees radiating joy, we caught up with the talented team to learn about the magic behind the makeover.

Hy: What was your inspiration behind Hy’s festive decorations?
Gingerbread Styling: “We took our cue straight from Hy’s brand. The logo’s pink and blue became the foundation for our design, with variations of those tones appearing throughout the decorations. We wanted to reflect Hy’s bold and playful vibe while keeping it festive.”

Hy: It all looks so effortless, but we know it takes work! What does an average day in your life look like during the festive season?
Gingerbread Styling: “Effortless is the dream, right? In reality, it’s long days and late nights. A typical day starts early and finishes late—we’re constantly surrounded by glitter (and wearing most of it). But it’s worth it when we see the final result and know our client is happy.”

Hy: What’s your creative process when planning a festive transformation like this?
Gingerbread Styling: “We always start with the basics: a cohesive colour scheme and quality materials. For Garlands, cable ties are our best friend! Every detail is planned meticulously—knowing the areas we’ll decorate, measuring ceiling heights, and ensuring we have the right ladders and tools. For garlands, for instance, every bauble is glued and cable-tied in place. On average, each garland has between 100 and 150 baubles, so attention to detail is key.”

Hy: Do you have any top tips for families looking to make their own Christmas décor stand out?
Gingerbread Styling: “Absolutely! Here are a few of our go-to tips:

1. Visit Garden centres. Garden centres always have lovely installations at Christmas time, so if you’re not creative we recommend starting there. Go early though… like as soon as they’re open. Gain inspiration and buy the decorations early on because they sell out fast!
2. Plan your space. Know where you’ll be decorating, check ceiling heights, and ensure you have access to plug sockets—or stock up on battery-operated lights.
3. Odd numbers work wonders. Decorations look best in sets of 3, 5, or 7. Place similar styles in different spots to create balance.
4. Lights first! Always thread your lights onto trees or garlands before adding other decorations. Turn them on as you go, and step back to spot any gaps.
   And most importantly—enjoy the process! Christmas is all about creating moments of joy.”

Hy: How do you feel about the final look at Hy?
Gingerbread Styling: “We’re thrilled! Hy’s pink and blue tones added such a fresh twist to traditional Christmas décor. Seeing the space come to life—and knowing it’ll bring holiday cheer to your guests—makes all the glitter, glue, and cable ties worthwhile.”
