Hy’s Take – Blackpool Tower Circus

When we found out Blackpool has its circus, we couldn’t believe it—how cool is that? Right on our doorstep! So, Hy teamed up with mother-and-son duo Miranda and Woody, and we decided to add the circus to our day out in Blackpool. Woody’s a toddler who loves shows, so he was definitely on board.

As we booked our tickets, the ticket master told us to show up about 30 minutes early if we wanted good seats. True to form (I’m sure families can relate), we aimed for that but ended up 15 minutes early instead. We saw the buggy stand was filling up fast, so we sped up, dodging all the slow walkers on our way to the entrance. Esther had the bright idea to ask one of the staff about the best seats, and here’s the tip we got: if you’re coming in from the side hallway next to the Blackpool dungeon, try to sit on the right side, as close to the front and middle as you can—the characters usually play to that side.

We got seats pretty close to the action and took in the pre-show chaos—kids running around, face painting everywhere, and parents getting talked into buying light-up toys left and right.

When the show started, the lights went down, and we met Mooky and Mr. Boo. They were honestly hilarious, especially Mooky with all his goofy pranks. Woody was absolutely loving it!

I don’t want to spoil the show, but let’s just say Woody was fully entertained, and Miranda and I kept looking at each other in shock, like, “How is this circus this good?” Turns out there’s a reason—the Blackpool Tower Circus is actually the oldest circus in the area, and these performers are pros, no doubt about it.

We both agreed it’s refreshing because some circuses we’ve seen have become so focused on a polished story that they’ve lost the magic. Here, the performers are not only amazing at what they do, but they play it up so well that you almost believe these are regular people pulling off wild stunts.

And the best part? Woody was glued to the show, and there were even a few laughs snuck in just for the parents, which we loved.

In the end, we’d absolutely recommend the Blackpool Tower Circus. If you’re in Blackpool with the family, give it a go!
